Targoz Conducts Latest JMI Poll of Florida Voters for the James Madison Institute

Targoz Market Research conducted the latest JMI Poll of Florida Voters for the James Madison Institute, a statewide survey of 1,200 registered voters released February 26, 2026.

The poll examined Floridians' views on affordability, property taxes, education choice, energy policy, civic attitudes, and the 2026 elections. The results show voters focused heavily on the rising cost of living and open to policy changes aimed at easing pressure on households.

Key findings from the released results include:

  • 92% of Florida voters said their living costs have increased, with insurance and taxes identified as leading drivers of housing affordability concerns.

  • 77% supported some form of property tax reform, including 42% who supported moderate changes and 35% who supported full elimination.

  • 58% viewed property tax levy caps favorably, suggesting interest in limits that tie property tax increases to inflation or growth.

  • 72% supported expanding energy generation, while 76% supported voter ID requirements.

  • 62% supported education “unbundling,” which would allow homeschool students to take individual courses for a fee.

  • In the 2026 governor’s race, U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds led the Republican field with 33%, followed by Lt. Gov. Jay Collins at 15% and former House Speaker Paul Renner at 9%, with 40% undecided.

  • On the Democratic side, former U.S. Rep. David Jolly led Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings 31% to 23%, with 44% unsure.

  • In a hypothetical general-election matchup, Donalds led Jolly 41% to 36%.
